Connecticut Arts Connections

Trolley Tour of Historic Federal Hill, Bristol, CT
Tour Bristol’s Historic Federal Hill Sunday, Aug. 30. A 90-minute trolley driving tour, presented by the American Clock and  Watch Museum, Bristol Historical Society, and Bristol Federal Hill Association, will be a fully narrated trip around one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this area was home to many of the city’s important clockmakers, industrialists, and civic leaders. Hear stories of the individuals who owned these homes as well as the architect responsible for many of the homes’ designs, Joel Tiffany Case.

After the tour, stay for a free concert on the Federal Hill Green, featuring the classic rock band Cajun Ray and the Steamers. The trolley tour will be conducted rain or shine, but in case of inclement weather, updates for the concert will be posted on bristolfederalhill.org

Tours begin in the parking lot of the First Congregational Church on Maple Street and will be offered at 1, 2:15, and 3:30 pm. Reservations are required. To purchase tickets ($25 each non-refundable), call the American Clock and Watch Museum at 860-583-6070. For additional information, consult the museum’s website clockandwatchmuseum.org.

Soak up the sun and outdoor fun during the Palace Theater’s first-ever “Rock the Dock” open-air summer series taking place this July and August at Waterbury’s newest hot spot, the Palace loading dock on Brook Street.

On Friday, July 17, at 5:30 pm the series kicks-off with an after-work dance party hosted by ACTJamsProductions’ Al "DJ ACT" Taylor, who will take requests and spin everyone’s favorite dance party hits from yesterday and today. Then on Friday, Aug. 21, the fun continues with a rocking 5:30 pm concert where the public chooses the band by voting in an online “social showdown” that will be featured on the theater’s website and Facebook page at the end of July.

The idea for the “Rock the Dock” series was generated after the massive success of the theater’s PALACE 10.0tenth anniversary celebration in May, which featured a well-received outdoor pre-party that included food trucks, beer tastings and a live performance by local band Crosseyed Cat. In addition to entertainment, each event in the series will feature a variety of food trucks and vendors for attendees to purchase from, as well as a full cash bar.

Tickets are $10 general admission and can be purchased online at www.palacetheaterct.org, by phone at 203-346-2000, or in person at the Box Office, 100 East Main St., Waterbury. In the case of inclement weather, all events will be moved inside the theater’s orchestra lobby.

I scream, you scream, did someone say FREE ice cream? The Mark Twain House and Museum invites everyone in for its seventh annual free Ice Cream Social on the patio from  5 to 7 pm Thursday, July 30.

Enjoy delicious frozen treats, sundaes with great toppings ,and maybe some old fashioned lemonade from 'Huck's Lem'nade Stand' served up by The Friends of The Mark Twain House and Museum.

If that's not enough, how about a triple scoop of entertainment? There will be music by local artists Horizon Blue, face painting by Kli, and a bubble making station too! Top it all off with arts and crafts and a story time for the little ones, and it's a cool, fun filled recipe fit for the whole family!

Horizon Blue is an acoustic Americana (folk, country and blue grass) musical group. Their performances are conversational, and inviting. In addition, there will be discounted tours of the first floor of the Mark Twain House ($5 for adults, seniors, and children; under age 6 free).
