Ballad Institute Offers Two Showings of Puppet Show

As part of its Spring Puppet Performance Series, the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry at the University of Connecticut will present Of Bread and Paper by Vermont-based puppeteer Finn Campman Saturday, Jan. 30. There will be two showings, at 1 and 3 pm in the Ballard Institute Theater, 1 Royce Circle, Storrs Center. 

Using exquisitely designed rod marionettes, miniature panorama, shadow theater, Bunraku-style puppets, paper costumes, and a series of suitcase stages, Of Bread and Paper tells the story of a poor refugee trying to find his way home. As he seeks his fortune, he is confronted by a dream that seems to unfold his future, a future that holds his true love, a child, and the need to return home. His exile is self imposed but enforced by the struggles of the world: poverty, conflict, indecision, and love. 

An accomplished print maker, writer, video artist, filmmaker, and teacher, Finn Campman has performed puppet shows around the world to great acclaim, and as co-artistic director of Company of Strangers,  has won a Citation of Excellence from the US chapter of the Union Internationale de la Marionnette. Recommended for children aged 9 and above.
